Red Hot Chili Peppers First Rock Artist To Accomplish This Since 2005

Not many bands can release two full albums in one year. Even fewer can accomplish what Red Hot Chili Peppers just did.

RHCP released two new albums in just over six months. First came Unlimited Love in April. And in October we heard Return of the Dream Canteen.

Well, fans gobbled up enough physical copies and album streams to earn number one debuts for both albums on the Billboard 200 – the overall album chart that tracks physical and digital sales and streams. The last time a rock artist topped this chart twice within a year was System Of A Down in 2005 with Mezmerize and Hypnotize!

Here’s a list of the few artists from every genre who have equaled this feat:

The Monkees (3)
The Beatles (twice)
Led Zeppelin
DMX
Jay-Z
Garth Brooks
Tupac Shakur

Smart rock fans might be asking, “Where’s Guns N’ Roses?” Yeah, they famously released two mammoth albums on one day in 1991: Use Your Illusion I & II. But only II topped the album chart. I peaked at #2 right behind.
