Axl Rose has been reliving his short time as AC/DC’s frontman at recent Guns N’ Roses shows.
Axl’s a massive AC/DC fan. You may recall back in 2016 Axl fronted AC/DC for about six months when Brian Johnson was worried he would suffer permanent hearing loss. GNR bassist Duff McKagan remembers how a much younger Axl used to daydream about getting to sing with his favorite band one day:
That was that thing when he was 14 or 15, ‘Man, one day, if I ever got to be in AC/DC…’ He was singing with a broom, and he finally got to do it. Amazing.”
GNR played AC/DC covers at shows even dating back to the Hollywood Rose days. They renewed the practice in the 2010s, usually sticking to “Whole Lotta Rosie” or “Riff Raff”. But at a show last night, they debuted one of AC/DC’s most iconic tracks. We got some fan shot video below.
The video is more blurry in this second clip, but I think Axl sounds a bit better.
“Back In Black” isn’t the only AC/DC cover that GNR has debuted on this recent run. They also pulled out Highway to Hell deep cut “Walk All Over You” a few nights earlier.
