Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame Announce 2022 Nominees

Rage Against The Machine, Eminem, and Dolly Parton rank among an incredibly diverse roster of potential inductees.

It’s about that time of year for music fans to pointlessly argue about what ‘rock’ means, because this year’s long list of Rock Hall nominees has arrived. The hall and its voters have whittled down an exhaustive list to 17 artists from many different genres and eras of popular music. Let’s dive in…

First Time Nominees:

Duran Duran
Dolly Parton
Lionel Richie
Carly Simon
A Tribe Called Quest

Nominees for the second straight year:

Rage Against The Machine
New York Dolls
Kate Bush
Fela Kuti

Other Nominees:

Judas Priest
Pat Benatar
Dionne Warwick

There’s a bit of Heavy Metal, Alternative, New Wave, Country, Hip Hop, R&B, Punk, Classic Rock, and even some international flavor!

By what bases are artists considered? Here’s what the Rock Hall says:

“To be eligible for nomination, an individual artist or band must have released its first commercial recording at least 25 years prior to the year of nomination. Factors such as an artist’s musical influence on other artists, length and depth of career and the body of work, innovation, and superiority in style and technique are taken into consideration.”

Continuing its practice from recent years, the Rock Hall does let the public exert some influence in the form of the “fan vote” at either or in person at the museum in Cleveland. The five artists with the most fan votes comprise one ballot out of the hundreds counted. For example, the 2021 ‘fan ballot’ is below; and artists who earned induction that year are marked in bold.

Tina Turner
Fela Kuti
The Go-Go’s
Iron Maiden
Foo Fighters

Fela Kuti appears on the shortlist again this year. And as unbelievable as it my seem, heavy metal legends Iron Maiden have to wait another year.

As far as the 2022 nominees go, which five are on your ballot?
