Watch the trailer for the Marvel anti-hero’s upcoming sequel ‘Venom: Let There Be Carnage’.
Did you like the first Venom film? I barely remember it to be honest. Never saw it in theaters, and I think I watched it at home in a state of… let’s call it ‘unwinding’? LOL. It’s probably worth another viewing. Read a plot synopsis here.
Despite terrible reviews, Venom ended up making about $850M internationally. And a mid-credits scene where Tom Hardy’s Eddie Brock conducts a prison interview with Woody Harrelson’s Cletus Kasady set the stage for a sequel. Plus, in an alternate non-pandemic Earth, other connected Sony/Marvel films would have been released by now. Jared Leto’s Morbius was originally scheduled to hit theaters before the Venom sequel, and when Mahershala Ali’s Blade reboot arrives is anyone’s guess. And will any of these films ever tie-in to Sony/Marvel’s Spider-Man collaborations? Time will tell.
Anyways, here’s what I want out of this Venom sequel.
- Be fun.
- Make me rich.
I was definitely that 90’s kid who justified spending his allowance on comics with, “They’ll be valuable someday and I can retire early!” Probably not gonna happen. Only the 60’s and 70’s kids – whose parents didn’t throw their comic collections in the trash – might come close. But hopefully those of us nerdy comics kids will get some more fun movies out of this.
